Back in ‘09, Rick Sebak, a documentary maker for our local PBS station, released a special titled ‘ Right Beside the River ’, which visited interesting and historic places and items in and around the Three Rivers. One of them was the shipyards of Dravo and Ambridge where LSTs were built during the war. One of the tidbits they mentioned was that an LST being launched down a slipway was actually faster than it was under its own power. Granted, it was only by a knot, but still...
